Presentation: Future of Quality Panel Discussion

In February 2010, we were pleased to have Paul E. Borawski, ASQ Executive Director and Chief Strategic Officer, join us for a discussion of the Future of Quality. Paul presented information from ASQ’s Futures Study and engaged us in a rich dialogue to better understand the key forces at play and how they will shape the future of quality. We kick off the program year bringing the conversation about the future into the present. In a panel discussion with quality leaders, we will be discussing how the key forces outlined in ASQ’s study – globalization, social responsibility, new dimensions for quality, aging population, healthcare, environment, and technology – are influencing what they are doing today to prepare for the future.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Brian Lassiter, President, Minnesota Council for Quality. Panelists include Luann Pendy, VP, Global Quality, Medtronic; Michael Fogarty, VP, Quality and Continuous Improvement, OptumHealth; Gary Floss, Director, Quality, Marvin Windows and Doors; and Bob Mitchell, Deployment Manager, 3M Corporate Quality & Lean Six Sigma Operations.

Some of the questions we will be posing to our panelists include:

  • How are you applying the lessons of yesterday as you lead your organization through the accelerating change of tomorrow?
  • How is globalization helping and/or hampering product and service quality?
  • How do you keep focus on the local organization while maintain awareness of global factors relevant to your business?
  • How do you keep customer focus and quality products in perspective with increasing pressure of a global environment, including unbalanced regulatory, social and political environments?
  • What incentives and disincentives will keep the aging population continuing in the workforce in the future?
  • How are healthcare trends impacting quality?
  • How do we balance the need for structure and standards with innovation?
  • How is the increasing sophistication of customers driving new dimensions of quality? How are you responding to these new dimensions of quality?
  • What technology are you planning to support quality initiatives? How?
  • How does technology impact quality initiatives?
  • What recommendations do you have for quality professionals to meet the coming challenges?

If you have additional questions you’d like the panelists to address, please feel free to submit them in advance to Karen Maskell at kmaskell@gmail.com.
