Minnesota ASQ Vision and Mission
Welcome to the Minnesota Section of ASQ.
We provide a variety of services to meet your needs as a quality professional. Minnesota Section of ASQ was founded in 1948 as the 33rd Section, with 18 members. Today, the Section is one of the largest, most active, and well-managed Sections in the country, with over 2600 members.
Our Section sponsors Specialty Groups, such as Task Groups, and provides you with networking opportunities with other professionals in our community and career development through its activities, educational offerings and services.
The Minnesota Section of ASQ is dedicated to advancing the quality profession for all its members and their organizations.

To be recognized as the preferred source of quality concepts, technology and tools for the benefit and value to our members, our Society, our communities and our profession.

- To promote personal and professional development of our members and non-members.
- To improve the credibility, marketability, influence and value of our members.
- To improve the public’s perception on the role of Quality and the value of the Section.
Minnesota ASQ History
- The Minnesota Section of ASQ was founded in 1948 as the 33rd Section, with 18 members.
- In 1949, the Minnesota Section of ASQ was the only Section to ever have 100% member renewal.
- In 1952, the Minnesota Section started the first all-day Quality Conference in the nation.
- The Section offered its first educational course in 1954.
- The Section hosted the Midwest Quality Conference for the first time in 1956-57.
- In 1970, the Minnesota Section helped start the Manitoba Section in Winnipeg.
- Corrine Columbo became the first female chair of an ASQ Section in 1974-75.
- In 1983, the Hiawatha Subsection was formed and gained Section status in 1984.
- The Minnesota Section held its first Biomedical Focus Conference in 1986.
- The Section hosted ASQC's 41st Annual Quality Conference in 1987.
- In 1988, the MN Section placed first in ASQC’s new Section Management Program, winning the top Saddoris Award.
- The Northwest Wisconsin Subsection, organized in Eau Claire n 1986, became a full Section in 1988.
- Formed in 1989, the Winona-LaCrosse Subsection became a full Section in 1991, leaving subsections in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rapid City, South Dakota and Watertown, South Dakota.
- In 1988, the Section helped form a Student Branch at Wisconsin-Stout, making a total of 3 student branches with branches also at Century Technical College and the University of Minnesota.
- ISO 9000 Quality Consortium was formed in 1991.
- In 1993, the Section played a role in helping found the Joseph M. Juran Institute at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of management
- ASQC became ASQ in July 1997.
- The 50th Annual Quality Conference was held in 2003.
- The Biomedical Consortium Task Group was formed in 2003.
- The BenchmarQ is offered electronically in 2003.
- Section member, Gary Floss, held ASQ office as Treasuter in 2003.
- In 2006, ASQ’s 60th anniversary was celebrated at Medtronic.
